Apply Medallions

Attaching Your Hiking Staff Medallions

  1. We recommend using a tack hammer and needle nose pliers.
  2. A second person holding the nail with a pair of needle nose pliers is very useful. Tack the nails part way in and be sure the spacing and the alignment of the medallion is correct, then hammer the nail in all the way.
  3. If you are attaching a lot of medallions, we recommend placing them with a small piece of double sided tape to be sure you like the spacing. After you nail on the medallions, it is not necessary to remove the tape.
  4. If the nails are bending because the wood is very hard, try pre-drilling the holes.
  5. Taking a small strip of very light cardboard and pushing the nail through that allows you to position the nail and keep your fingers out of the way while hammering in the medallion.

Note: Once you have nailed on the medallion, you cannot remove it without damage.
